Upon acceptance to BHSN enrollment is contingent upon successful completion of the following:

  • CORI Policy (Criminal Offender Record Information)/ SORI Policy (Sexual Offender Registry Information):    SHBHSN has been certified by the Criminal History Systems Board for Required 1 level access to all adult/youthful offender convictions and pending offenses.  As a final applicant for admission, you will authorize SHBHSN to conduct a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, and a Sexual Offender Registry Information (SORI) check.  CORI and SORI checks are required of all students upon admission and re-admission.  Out of state CORIs/SORIs will be done as needed. Any and all out of state background checks required will be an out-of-pocket expense to the student.SHBHSN will be released from all claims arising from said CORI/SORI checks. Unless otherwise provided by law, a criminal record will not automatically disqualify an applicant from admission.  Rather, determination of suitability based on background checks will be made consistent with SHBHSN policy, clinical agency requirements and any applicable laws and regulations.   A follow-up CORI check and/or additional screenings (i.e.; fingerprinting, drug testing) may be required by some clinical agencies.  Students must be aware that some clinical agencies may have access to higher level CORI information per state and federal regulations.  Depending on results of any of the above-mentioned background checks, a person’s eligibility to participate in the SH/BHSN program may be affected.Applicants must understand and acknowledge that any false statements or omissions disclosed on the CORI form may result in refusal to admit to SHBHSN.Applicants must also understand that prior to taking the NCLEX-RN exam, they must demonstrate compliance with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing’s “Good Moral Character” requirements, which could require further investigation/verification of applicants’ criminal background.
  • Documentation for medical clearance: In compliance with the immunization requirements specified by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, students must provide the following upon acceptance to SH/BHSN:
    • Up-to-date Mantoux (TB) test results- must be within SH/BHSN designated timeline
    • Tetanus shot
    • Titers showing immunity to: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella & Hepatitis B – If results do not indicate immunity, follow up will be required.
    • Letter from primary care provider confirming student is in good health to participate in program
  • A current American Heart Association Health Care Provider certification. SH/BHSN requires all students to have a current American Heart Association Health Care Provider certification (BLS). For example, students starting Fall 2017 must have a valid certification through May 2019, returning students must re-certify after two years. Proof of current CPR is due by August 1st.
  • Completion of the Health Education Inquiry System (HESI) Exams offered at SH/BHSN.
  • Health Insurance:  Enrollment/Eligibility: Massachusetts’ regulations state students enrolled at least 75 percent of full-time credits are required to have health insurance.  NOTE: ALL students enrolled at the Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital School of Nursing are required to have health insurance.  To ensure compliance, students are automatically enrolled in and billed for the Student Health Insurance Plan.
